Informed consent is your voluntary agreement to a treatment plan after proper, accurate and adequate information is conveyed to you about the proposed techniques and protocols that will be used. A key factor underpinning informed consent in massage therapy is that you are autonomous and have control over your body, including what treatments a massage therapist performs on your body. This means that the therapist must explain what treatments they plan to use and why.
